Higher Education: Out of the Box

Higher Education: Out of the Box

My husband went on a mission trip to Tanzania final spring and came back with pieces of ebony carved animals wrapped up in old newspapers.

Whilst going via the gorgeous pieces, I noticed an advertisement in the old paper:
"Acquire UK degrees in Malaysia. Meet the University Representative at the Education Malaysia Kenya"

This is Every day Country, a Kenyan English newspaper widely circulated in the eastern component of Africa.

For several years the only choice to definitely excel in ones career or wellbeing in establishing nations love Kenya or Malaysia was to pursue greater education in 'western nations'. Nations really like United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand.

But, why are they shifting their concentrate to Asia now?

2 years ago, I was exposed!

My ideals of the American Dream had been challenged by Dani Johnson. She mentioned, "98 percent of us are either dead broke or dead by the age of 65".

Are you being exposed too? Your career is fairly unstable? Is the piece of your pie being small? Your house cost is now lower than what you paid for? How around that kids's education fund? Is there one at all now?

Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus just published a very timely book known as, "Greater Education: how colleges are wasting our cash and failing our children". They mentioned, our country's young deserve superior than the overpriced and undernourished diet regime (education) they are being fed...it really is around how we view our obligations to our subsequent generation.

So, what are some of our alternatives for greater education?
Do we feel out of the box...?
STUDY ABROAD!

There are seven causes why study abroad is a great idea:
one. Being out of the box. By being out of the comfort zone we can discover our own strengths and weaknesses, and we stretch our imagination.
two. Discover or enhance a new language. If we are already studying a second language in school or college, why not master it at a quicker pace at the native nation. In today's globalized economic climate, realizing a second language is an added benefit to job seekers or small business specialists.
three. Meet new persons, new cultures, try new food.
four. Find to see the globe Though becoming an education.
5. Strengthen our resume for the reason that we have added price to ourselves.
6. Set ourselves apart from other job seekers for the exact same job due to the fact we demonstrate independence, exposure and expertise outside of the norm. Employers are also searching for uniqueness and achievements that are various from the vast majority.
7. Network with men and women in distinctive cultures. Envision all those jobs that have been outsourced to the Philippines. May perhaps there be one thing from us that they need to have in the Philippines?

The American psychologist, Rollo May perhaps mentioned, the opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, it really is conformity. Do we exist and act love every person else without having understanding specifically why and what we are going for?

Sure, understanding abroad is 'scary' to some. But which is scarier? Raising a generation that are no longer relevant to the coming economic shift or raising a generation that is armed and ready to take on the coming economic shift

There are a Little group of young Americans who are already taking benefit of education overseas. My amazing friend, Dr Ah Hiok Sia is the Associate Vice President of INTI International University Malaysia. She mentioned, there are around two,500 international students in her university and some are young Americans who are pursuing summer programs. They Acquire credits toward their college degree at a less expensive cost, acquire to encounter the Malaysian life and travel about Asia.

My mother who speaks no English lately went to the American Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a visitor's visa interview. Rather of hoping to acquire an interpreter, she discovered herself speaking with a young American who is completely fluent in Mandarin.

This young American gentleman will not lack work While he plans to come back to the American soil. He is bilingual and well traveled and has work encounter that is fairly unique compared to the majority.

These are just some examples of the fruits of understanding abroad.
